District Administration magazine featured Hanover’s Marriam Ewaida, Content Director for K-12, in its article “Implementing equity in education.” Hanover provided expert insight on how districts are approaching the equity gap through professional development. Marriam spoke to the importance of needs assessments and the overarching nature of education equity.
“When it comes to equity, different schools will need different PD”, says Marriam Ewaida, the K12 research director at consulting firm Hanover Research. She’s even noticed that schools are requesting personalized professional learning.“Some districts believe their teachers need differentiated professional development in equity, so they go for one-on-one instructional coaching or online modules.”
A detailed needs assessment for your district should come first. She says education equity is best seen as a framework that can be embedded into everything a school does.”
